How to Win an Online Singing Competition
To win an online singing competition, choose a song that sits comfortably in your range, record it cleanly in a quiet room, and deliver it with real emotion from the first line. On Talentino Live, half your score comes from judges marking technique, creativity, expression and impact, and half from verified audience votes, ratings and watch-through — so you need both a strong performance and steady, honest support.

Start with the right song
Song choice is the decision that most often separates winners from the rest. Judges score Technique at 30% of their mark, and it is very hard to score well on technique with a song that pushes you past your comfortable range. A mid-range song sung perfectly in tune will almost always beat a showpiece that cracks at the top.
Sing the song through three times on different days. If any line still feels like a struggle, change the key or pick another song. Make sure the song also shows something about you — a style you love, a language you grew up with, or a story you can tell convincingly. That personal connection feeds directly into the Expression and Impact parts of the rubric.
Make it yours
Creativity is 25% of the judge score. You do not need to reinvent a song to earn those marks, but you should make at least one deliberate personal choice: a slower tempo for a ballad, an a cappella first verse, a short harmony, a regional-language verse, or a small improvisation at the end of a line. One well-executed idea is better than several half-finished ones.
Original songs are welcome too. If you write your own music, make the melody easy to follow on first listen, because viewers in a feed decide quickly whether to keep listening.
Record cleanly on your phone
You do not need a studio. You do need a quiet space and a few minutes of preparation. Choose a room with soft furnishings — curtains, a bed, a wardrobe full of clothes — to reduce echo. Switch off fans and air conditioners for the take. If you use a backing track, play it through one earphone so it does not bleed into the microphone, and keep the music slightly quieter than your voice.
Place the phone at eye level, about an arm's length away, with your face and shoulders in frame and the main light in front of you. Record several complete takes and choose the best one; do not stitch together parts of different takes, as the jumps are noticeable and the performance must be a real, single performance.
Open strong
On Talentino, 20% of the audience score is watch-through — the share of viewers who watch most of your entry. Long instrumental introductions lose viewers. Start close to the first sung line, and make the first phrase confident. If the song has a famous hook, consider whether you can reach it sooner.
Understand how you will be scored
Your final score is out of 10: 50% judges and 50% audience. Judges score a shortlist after voting closes, without seeing vote counts, using four criteria: Technique 30%, Creativity 25%, Expression 25% and Overall impact 20%. With four or more judges, the highest and lowest marks are dropped.
The audience half combines verified votes (40%), viewers' 1–10 star ratings (40%) and watch-through (20%). Ratings are averaged with a fairness adjustment so a handful of early ratings cannot swing the result. Our guide to how online talent contests are judged explains every part in detail.
Build support the honest way
Every vote on Talentino comes from a verified account: one account per phone number, one vote per entry per day (India time) and a daily cap per contest. Suspicious bursts of votes from brand-new accounts are flagged and can be voided. That means the winning strategy is steady sharing over the whole contest — family groups, your music class, colleagues — rather than one big push on the last day.
Remind supporters that they can vote again each day, and ask them to watch the whole performance and leave an honest rating. Those ratings and watch-through count as much as votes.
Learn from every contest
After results, you receive a scorecard with judge feedback. Read it carefully: if you lost marks on Technique, focus your next month on pitch and breath; if Expression was low, practise performing to the camera. The Talentino Academy offers contest-prep coaching and singing tracks if you want structured help, and you can enter the next open singing contest as soon as it appears.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most important factor in winning an online singing competition?
A clean, in-tune performance of a song that suits your voice. Technique is the largest single part of the judge score.
Should I use auto-tune or heavy effects?
No. Entries must be your real voice. Light reverb is fine, but pitch correction that changes your performance works against you.
How many people need to vote for me?
There is no fixed number. Votes are only part of the audience half, alongside ratings and watch-through, and judges count for the other half.
Can I enter with an original song?
Yes. Original songs are welcome as long as you perform them yourself.
